  1. There's some cool software and exploits that were during the 3ds era, gbarunner is one of those: it's an hypervisor, translating the arm7 instructions into arm9. Not very accurate but it works.
Among the exploits are the (really old) firmware mods, the DS download play hack thing and NDS bootstrap using the extra ram thing.
I mean it's just for the coolness factor, just get a DSi if you care about pixel perfect or a 3DS if you don't, and you won't need a flashcard.

Ok there's actually something from the time that I used with my first R4: MOONSHELL.
IT BROUGHT SOME MULTIMEDIA CAPABILITIES OF THE PSP TO THE 3DS.
Could play videos in theory, and sure as hell could play mp3.
THE DSI MUSIC PLAYER ONLY USED M4A. I ONLY HAD A STUPID SONG FROM FABRI FIBRA SENT ME VIA BLUETOOTH ON A FEATURE PHONE, because no internet, no computer and no converters.
    Really wtf

  2. What interesting to me about this is. I completely forgot I had some expirence with home brew.. prior to this video I was looking into this community more and more because I find it interesting from both a gamer and tech nerd perspective. I was thinking to myself that I should do this to my Xbox 360 which will be a fun project. And then I saw this and I remember when I was younger. I had a ds lite in red and one day my godfather found out I had it. So the next trip he took to the state he got me the r4 card and loaded a bunch of game to it. I often credit the ps2 for my love of gaming but thinking about it. It all started with a ds lite and a r4 card. Crazy nostalgic trip

  3. I’m looking for a great flash cart that doesn’t have a “time bomb” (which Ik is extremely hard), but I’d really love to play some old DS game, and mess around some other hacks and rims I didn’t get to as a kid.

  4. i remember playing ds lite, and when i buy the console it is sell flash cart (i don't know that was flash cart until right now) game,i remember the flash card is from edge

hahaha right now ds was legal adult age (18 years)

  5. My dad got us R4i cards back in the day when he had read some news about rampant piracy and the devices used to allow it. Obviously he very quickly got us some.
I played so many games I never would have because of that lol.
He also did movie encodes of like, cloudy with a chance of meatballs and what not so we could watch it on our DSes.
    Wonderful man he was.

  6. gbarunner2 is not an emulator. It is a hypervisor accessing the actual Game Boy advance hardware on the console. Fun fact; It is the only way you can play GBA games on a DSi, which still features the hardware but no slot. 3DS has its own separate mode for GBA which the homebrew community has already fully(ish) optimized

  7. The timebomb carts (at least the ones shown as examples in the video) can install a replacement kernel/frontend called YSMenu that removes the timebomb (which is just a software 'feature', not a hardware one). Once you've done that, they're perfectly serviceable cards that work as well as any other.

  8. I love your attitude about about “arggg!!” games. I’ll sail the seven seas and walk the plank before you catch me buying games older than most pirate’s parrots! ????????

Here’s to a LIKE well deserved!

  9. For me; it's my 2008 R4 with Wood to play all my totally "owned" DS digital copies of an unsupported system that I got instead of paying a glorified scammer online.

IIRC Black & White 2 has the same type of catridge.

  10. Its almost 2023 & I wanna homebrew a 3ds because quite frankly fuckit why not
Who wouldn't want a pretty gaming brick that can also be hacked to play DOOM?

  11. What? The DS has PERFECT controls for 3D games, at least for FPS. Metroid Prime Hunters is the closest you can get to mouse controls on a console – yes, even to this day. It naturally blows the garbage dual analogue controls we've been using as an excuse for FPS controls for the past 20 years out of the water completely, but I even prefer it over Splatoon motion aiming, it's that good.

  12. Holy shit nitrotracker on the DS brings me back to my DS homebrew days. The app DSOrganize had a built in IRC client and that's where I made many friends I still have to this day.
