I screwd it up… playing Hollow Knight as my first MetroidVania makes everything else not feel good enough, thats how good HK is
Since I played Ori 2 and Hollow Knight i can say that:
Ori 2 may have the best soundtrack and graphics among all 2D games of all time (my opinion)
Hollow Knight is literally super good, better than Ori (in platforming and fighting mechanics mostly)
Why is not sundered in that list? Probably one of the best games I've played in the last 5 years!!!

Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night is my top 1 from this list, since its an Igavania, and those are very rare.
Skelattack is one of my favorite Metroidvania titles, I can even speed run it. It was released by Konami. Maybe you reviewed it back in an earlier video. I have made it one year back in time in your videos. I can't beleive how many videos you have made, this one has a lot of views too, lets go

While I love Hollow Knight, it is not my number 1 pick. It is really a great game but I hated the mechanic where when you die you lose whatever shells you acquired between saves. I am not as good at games as I used to be so this aspect was incredibly frustrating to me. I ended up cheating because of it.

I also highly recommend "A Robot Named Fight!", one of the coolest Super Metroid clones I ever played, it's a rogue-like metroidvania with infinite possibilities, cool graphics and gameplay and great ost

What is the game at the beginning of the video
The Messenger was just too perfect, so much attention to what not only makes a good Metroidvania, but brought a fresh new idea with half of the game being the intro. But it's so much more than that, the music, the combat and hit detection, the flow of the game, the humor, everything is made for people who love platformers from the 8, 16 and 32-bit era.

Iconoclasts is a fantastic game. I went from Hollow Knight to Iconoclasts and played the entire thing, didn't even feel any gameplay fatigue at all. It's a bit linear though, but it's got a pretty good story and amazing boss fights.

While I haven't played most of these, I can't disagree at all.

After that … big gap in quality. Games like Iconoclasts, Momodora, Axiom Verge are good solid games but not masterpiece quality like the ones above imo.
For me, Deadcell is also a great choice, it's pretty much similar to Hollow knight and Blasphemous
