If you’ve played Call of Duty: Warzone recently, you’ll no doubt have encountered – or maybe even used – the controversial DMR 14 yourself.
The DMR 14, a weapon added to battle royale as part of Treyarch’s Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War integration, currently dominates the Warzone meta. Domination is too sweet a way to put it – DMR is seen as essential to success, and it’s absolutely everywhere.
The DMR 14 is a semi-automatic tactical rifle, with an increased rate of fire and minimum recoil. It’s devastating in the long run, now reliable damage to enemies in the blink of an eye.
The DMR is so powerful it can take out a squad in seconds, just a few well-placed bursts of fire doing the kind of damage other weapons need sustained fire. The DMR also excels in the kind of range you want for engagements in Warzone – enough distance to take out enemies without them having time to react.
It’s really unplayable now. RIP Warzone Season 1 of r / CODWarzone

Warzone has had weapons considered mastered before, of course, but what the emergence of DMR has highlighted is a new issue in the game: the balance of weapons is out of balance by incorporating weapons from a entirely different game.
Black Ops weapons from the Cold War are currently dominating the Warzone meta, which the community predicted. Black Ops Cold War’s MAC-10 SMG is considered the best close combat option currently in the game, with the Akimbo-shaped Black Ops Cold War Diamatti handgun also popular.
As you might expect, the memes have started. Here is an exerpt:

A nerf is expected and I’m sure it will come, but there is a feeling that the Black Ops weapons of the Cold War will remain dominant in the short to medium term. This is the problem Warzone now faces. With Infinity Ward leaving Warzone, Raven Software is the current custodian. As new weapons are added to Black Ops Cold War for use in Treyarch-built multiplayer, Raven is tasked with making them work in Warzone. In this context, balancing arms looks like nightmarish work. These weapons are designed to work in two entirely separate engines: the one that powers Black Ops Cold War and the one that powers Warzone. Perhaps it was inevitable that the first season of both games would end up wreaking havoc.
While waiting for a nerf, maybe pack a riot shield. In case.
